The reverberations from the Epstein Files are still being felt across the electorate in profound ways. Last week, COURIER and Reckoning Action released a new poll conducted by public opinion research firm GBAO. It found that 88% of Americans who plan to vote in the midterms will prioritize candidates who promise to hold powerful people accountable, including through the release of the full Epstein files. The results offer a striking look at how voters are weighing accountability against issues like healthcare, affordability, and immigration. But perhaps the most notable finding is just how bipartisan the sentiment is: 83% of Republican voters say accountability will factor into their votes. That finding feels particularly salient in light of billionaire Leon Black’s escalation against Congress last week. Black, who bankrolled Epstein for years, was subpoenaed back in June to appear under oath and produce non-disclosure agreements he signed with women tied to Epstein. Rather than comply, he sued the Oversight Committee last week, a decision that drew immediate bipartisan condemnation from committee members. Chair James Comer (R-KY) called it "unacceptable" and emphasized the importance of Black’s testimony to the investigation. Ranking Member Robert Garcia (D-CA), meanwhile, called for Black to be held in contempt.
