With Congress out on a multi-week pre-election recess, there haven’t been any significant new developments on the Epstein front domestically. International investigations, however, are progressing and — unsurprisingly — running into resistance from the DOJ. As reported by the Washington Post, law enforcement agencies in Poland, Norway, Latvia, and the U.K. say they have encountered roadblocks from the U.S. Justice Department and have yet to receive documents they requested from the department while pursuing their own leads. Some of this could be a reflection of the DOJ’s longstanding operational issues due to high turnover and outdated technology, but when paired with Attorney General Todd Blanche’s efforts to block the release of new information at home, it’s hard not to wonder whether the stonewalling abroad is deliberate.
Meanwhile, after opening a human trafficking investigation following the release of the Epstein files back in January, French authorities announced that they had identified possible recruiters tied to Epstein, along with 13 new victims who hadn’t appeared in previous cases. It’s a worthwhile reminder that the global scale of Epstein’s network means this story isn’t simply going to disappear, no matter how hard the Trump administration tries to squash it.
