This past week saw a flurry of major developments in the Epstein investigation at both the state and federal levels. Perhaps most significantly, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) released a new report focused on following the money and tracing Epstein’s financial trail. Wyden has been pursuing this investigation for some time now, using his position as ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee to dig into Epstein’s financial ties for almost four years. His 65-page report paints a damning portrait of the banking industry, highlighting the many ways banks and top executives turned a blind eye to Epstein’s suspicious activity for fear of losing an extremely lucrative client. “If federal prosecutors are serious about preventing the next Jeffrey Epstein,” the report reads, “they must hold Wall Street accountable.”
The investigations into Epstein’s sprawling Zorro Ranch in New Mexico also took a significant turn this week. In a serious escalation, New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez sued the Department of Justice and newly-appointed AG Todd Blanche, accusing them of stonewalling the state’s Epstein investigation. Meanwhile, the state’s bipartisan truth commission released its interim report into possible criminal activity at Zorro Ranch, saying it found credible evidence to support the abuse allegations of women and girls at the property.
