Last week, Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA), who co-authored the original Epstein Files Transparency Act passed last year, announced that they had secured the 218 signatures needed to force a House vote on the Epstein Files Transparency Act 2.0. In addition to Massie, three other Republicans—Reps. Ralph Norman (SC), Nancy Mace (SC) and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA)—broke rank from President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson to join Democrats in calling for the bill's passage. Congress is currently in recess and not expected to return until after the Nov. 3 midterm elections, so the bill has not yet been signed. If passed, it would allow victims to access the unredacted files upon request and grant them, as well as state attorneys general, the right to sue Blanche’s DOJ. This could be a game changer for figures like New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez, who recently sued the DOJ for failing to produce records he had requested in his investigation. Meanwhile, before leaving Washington, the House voted unanimously to hold billionaire Leon Black in contempt for failing to comply with the House Oversight Committee's subpoenas. Black is thus far the only witness related to the case to be held in contempt, marking the first time Oversight Chairman James Comer (R- KY) has shown such strong willingness to hold a witness' feet to the flame.
